“The Emperor’s Way” Oral tradition
Nobody knows where he came from. He emerged out of the mines with the second plague of black death. They called it 'the soot', because it was the miners who first got it. They dug deep into the earth. There, they discovered an ancient structure. A tomb. An artefact. Soon after, the men started dying. First, their eyes oozed black tears, smearing their faces. Their souls withered from within. Eventually, they would just disappear. Vanish. The price of the industrial revolution, they said.
So a young miner named Wey set off through the devastated land to ask the king for help. But what help was to be given? The world of families and tribes disappeared, transformed into a soot-covered desert of industry. The moment of Wey’s meeting with the king is another enigma: they spoke alone. Then, they too disappeared.
By then, the war with the remnants of the old Roman Empire already broke out.
What other ancient mysteries will be uncovered deep in the vaulted chambers of the old mines?
